School of Public Affairs San Diego State University Tenure-Track Position: City Planning-Public Administration

General Information: San Diego State University, with an enrollment of 32,000 students is, one of the 23 campuses in the California State University System. San Diego State University is a major intellectual, cultural, and educational institution serving the greater San Diego area. The University offers bachelor degrees, in 89 areas, master degrees in 78 and doctoral degrees in 22. San Diego State University is classified as a Carnegie High Activity Research University. For four consecutive years (2007-2010), SDSU was ranked as the No. 1 most productive research university among schools with 14 or fewer Ph.D. programs based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. The University is located 25 miles from the United States/Mexico border and places an increasing international emphasis on preparing students for a global future.

Public Affairs: The School of Public Affairs within the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts contains three programs: public administration, criminal justice and city planning; each offer a master?s degree. Criminal justice and public administration also offer bachelor?s degrees with combined enrollment of over 1300 students. The master?s degree in public administration is also offered with either a concentration in criminal justice or city planning. The School also offers a joint masters degree in public administration and Latin American studies, and the School's MPA degree is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). The School of Public Affairs emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to complex problems, excellence in teaching, research, and service to the community, the university, and the professional field.

Position Description (City Planning-Public Administration) The School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University is seeking an assistant professor tenure-track faculty member for a Fall 2013 appointment. The position requires expertise to teach courses in (1) urban history or urban design/physical planning (2) urban and regional analysis, and (3) urban government/urban problems. Ability to develop and teach online and distance courses is highly desirable. The School through its Institute of Public and Urban Research has related interests in international and comparative urban research, entrepreneurial government, public-private partnerships, active transportation, urban and regional sustainability, and alternative energy policy.

Effective Date of Appointment: August 2013.
